The creative project in this chapter is to compose/improvise two short pieces for keyboard that represent two contrasting expressions. The music theory and performance skills are barely introduced, so it might be a good time to simply experiment and find out your preference and taste regarding harmonies and melodies. Employ your imagination and the keyboard skills you have to explore emotions and develop keyboard skills in a creative way.
If you are not familiar with the traditional notation system, create a system that works for you. Don’t worry if your notation does not show all the information about your piece. No notation system indicates every bit of musical information. At this early stage, it is most important that the notation means something to you.
The suggested duration for each piece is 30 seconds to 1 minute.
