2. C Major Scale
The C major scale starts on C. It plays all white keys, and no black keys. Let us play a C major scale with the right hand. Follow the suggested fingerings.
Half step is the closest distance between two pitches on the keyboard. Whole step consists of two half steps. For example, the distance between E and F or B and C is a half step, whereas C and D or D and E is a whole step. The C major scale reveals a certain pattern of whole and half steps that is shared with every major scale:
